Planning permission rule changes take effect today

Permitted developments approved by Tynwald

Anyone looking to put up solar panels, air source heat pumps or a new conservatory roof won't need planning permission from today (3 August).

Changes to what is classed as 'permitted development' have come into effect, after they were approved by Tynwald last month.

It applies to electric vehicle charging points, air source heat pumps, replacement conservatory roofs, roof-mounted solar panels and school bike shelters.

These can now be installed without the need for permission from planners, though certain building control rules still apply.
