Bank member of staff gave notice and isn't being replaced
Manx Care says no redundancy has been made within the audiology service at Ramsey District Cottage Hospital.
It follows speculation around the decision to staff the clinic in the north with a volunteer.
The health body says it wants to reassure the public that the hearing clinic will continue to operate as normal with simple repairs still able to be carried out as required.
It follows a review of the service which found that it could continue to be safely delivered by trained Hear2Help volunteers alone without the need for an audiologist.
The previous audiologist was on a bank contract which means either party can exit the arrangement, at any time, with a week’s notice which was provided in this case.
For the last two years all audiograms have been conducted at Noble’s Hospital due to the lack of an ‘appropriate environment’ at Ramsey Distract Cottage Hospital.
It was after it was determined the testing and fitting of hearing aids, and other examinations, couldn’t be carried out in accordance with British Society of Audiology guidelines.
Patient transport is in place for anyone who requires help getting to Noble’s Hospital and domiciliary visits can be organised for those who are housebound.
