Move to align pension ages

Peake to bring matter to Tynwald

A move to align public sector pension and state pension ages at 66 years-old will be made in Tynwald next week.

The court is due to debate a report on public sector pensions during the sitting.

Middle MHK Bill Shimmins is to move an amendment to close the current scheme to new members and open a new one based on contributions rather than benefits.

And Douglas North member Ralph Peake is to propose retirement ages come in to force at the same time.

He says we are currently out of step with other nations in the British Isles so it's important we make the adjustment.
