Public unhappy with lack of consultation over proposed changes

Post office bosses faced a grilling at the hands of Ballasalla residents this morning.

 

More than 100 people have attended a coffee morning at the church hall to find out more about the future of the village's post office counter.

 

CEO Simon Kneen and vice-chair Tanya August-Hanson MLC took questions from those who came, including the commissioners and both constituency MHKs.

 

Many were angry at the suggestion they’d have to go to other post offices, and a perceived lack of consultation.

 

The current subpostmaster of the Ballasalla post office will step down at the end of his contract in March, and the counter is likely to be replaced with a self-service kiosk.

 

It’s part of the PO’s retail modernisation strategy, branded a cost-cutting exercise by critics.
