Manx gyms make the case for a safe reopening

Calls for dialogue with government

Gym owners have laid out a strategy for the reopening of independent fitness centres across the Island, with many feeling the financial effects of lockdown.

In a letter sent to the education sport and culture Minister, 24 separate businesses have made the case for a restart of the industry in mid-June.

Gym owners say, with the relevant precautions in place, this can be done in a safe manner, and are calling for an 'active dialogue' with government over how this can be achieved.

Along with a host of other indoor sports, gyms aren't permitted to reopen yet, with concerns over 'close contact' activities and gatherings of more than 10 people currently prohibited.

The regulations are 'reviewed and considered by the Council of Ministers on a fortnightly basis'.
