Originally stopped for minor motoring offences
A Ramsey man who was stopped by police for minor motoring offences spent six days in custody because he refused to tell officers anything about himself.
Sixty-two-year-old Courtenay Adam Heading, of Richmond Road, appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
He’d previously appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes, who entered not guilty pleas to three charges on his behalf after he refused to speak in court.
Prosecution advocate Barry Swain said Mr Heading is accused of driving without a correct licence plate, car tax or insurance.
The court heard police stopped his Renault Clio on the Mountain Road shortly after 1.30pm on 12 July after noticing his licence plate read ‘CLC Jurby’.
But when they spoke to him, he refused to identify himself, saying he didn’t recognise their jurisdiction over him – Mr Swain told the hearing Mr Heading also refused to answer any questions in interview.
Mr Heading, who represented himself in court, confirmed he still wanted to maintain his not guilty pleas.
After hearing already he’d spent six days in custody, magistrates bailed him in the sum of £500 and Mr Heading will appear in court again on 6 August.
