Girlfriend denies aiding and abetting charge
A woman who gave her boyfriend a driving lesson will appear in court after it turned out he didn’t have a licence and wasn’t insured.
Kayleigh Cara Cannell of Castletown Road and Toby Wood of the Edremony Estate in Port Erin appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
Twenty-one-year-old Wood pleaded guilty to driving without a licence or insurance on 8 November, while 18-year-old Miss Cannell denied two counts of aiding and abetting him.
Prosecution advocate James Robinson told the hearing police spotted the couple in a VW Polo Castletown.
Wood was driving while his girlfriend was in the passenger seat – she told officers it was her car and she was giving him a driving lesson.
Wood was fined £520 for the two offences, as well as being ordered to pay £50 towards prosecution costs and have eight penalty points put on his licence.
Miss Cannell was adjourned and she'll appear in court again at a pre-trial review hearing on 6 February.
