Laxey man admits assaulting motorist

Fine for 22-year-old who also kicked wing mirror

A Laxey man who punched a motorist and kicked his wing mirror has been fined.

Twenty-two-year-old Joe Yeardsley of Bay View Terrace appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to one count each of common assault and causing criminal damage on 15 February 2018.

Prosecution advocate Barry Swain told the hearing Yeardsley overtook another driver at speed on Victoria Road in Douglas just before 10pm.

The driver followed Yeardsley along Douglas Promenade and up Broadway, when Yeardsley double-parked outside Home Run Pizza.

When the man asked about his driving, Yeardsley turned violent and punched him before kicking his wing mirror and driving off.

The court heard he’d served a significant jail term after being convicted of dangerous driving, and his advocate asked the bench to impose no penalty or a conditional discharge given the time he’d served.

Magistrates imposed a £200 fine for assaulting the man, and ordered him to pay £125 towards prosecution costs.
