Island slips further in broadband speeds

IOM more than a bit behind

The Isle of Man has slipped backwards in a new ranking of countries based on internet connectivity.

Comparison website Cable has published its 2018 Worldwide Broadband Speed league table, with East Asia and Scandinavia coming out on top again.

Last year saw the Isle of Man place 50th in the table - this year, we are 62nd.

Although download speeds have increased here over the past year, to an average of 10.54 Mbps, other countries are blazing ahead.

Singapore is first again, clocking up a blistering 60 Mbps.

The United Kingdom has slipped down four places to 35th.

This year's ranking also saw Jersey break into the top ten.

The figures come weeks after Chief Minister Howard Quayle announced a national strategy on broadband would be published this autumn - with a target of tripling our average offering by 2020.

He believes the Island could 'lead the world' in download speeds.
