Island back in 21-day circuit break lockdown from tomorrow

Schools to close, social distancing returns

The Island will go into a 21-day circuit break lockdown tomorrow.

Two metre social-distancing will be reintroduced, along with advice to wear face coverings, with public asked to stay at home.

Schools are to close to all but vulnerable children and those of keys workers.

The measures will come into force from the first minute of Wednesday, just after midnight tonight.

The decision to enter a third 'circuit breaker' comes after further unexplained cases last night confirmed there's widespread community infection.

Dr Henrietta Ewart is the Director of Public Health:

One of the new cases was a year 8 pupil from St Ninian's Lower School at Bemahague.

The whole year group and their households have been asked to self-isolate while contract tracing is underway. 

Chief Minister Howard Quayle gave this response to those who questioned why government wait until 10am this morning to announce the third lockdown:
