Investigation underway into Mona Street fires

Several fires deliberately started over the last week

A police and fire service investigation is underway following a number of fires in Douglas.

The fires happened between last Sunday and this Wednesday in Mona Street, and are being treated as deliberate acts.

A joint investigation is looking into a series of incidents, one of which saw a white Ford Focus set alight while it was parked and unattended outside an address on Mona Street.

Fires have also been started at the front door of a property on the street on Monday and Wednesday this week.

Firefighters were able to deal with the incidents quickly and ensured no-one was hurt, but the Isle of Man Constabulary's CID branch warns these fires had the potential to cause significant harm.

Police patrols are being stepped up in the area and CCTV enquiries are underway, but officers want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed these incidents, or has other information which could aid their investigation.

Police Headquarters can be contacted on 631212.
