Inflation goes up again

3.5% at end of October

Inflation on the Island has gone up.

The figure as measured by the Consumer Prices Index rose to 3.5% last month, from 2.4% in September.

The rise was driven by categories including Transport, Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels and recreation and culture.

Transport and housing have been influenced by the increasing oil price which is 23% higher than 12 months ago.

Categories such as postage have gone up 10.6% in the year up to the end of October and household equipment up by 15.5% . . though the cost of groceries has fallen over the 12 month period to the 31st October.

In the month itself, items such as clothing and footwear decreased by 2.1% and transport dropped 3.7%.

The figure as measured by the RPI stands at 5.2%.
