Hosepipe ban decision explained by Manx Utilities

Bosses have 'learnt the lessons' from summer 2018

The decision to impose a hosepipe ban from midnight tomorrow night (Friday, 5 June) was made partly because of the water shortages in summer 2018, according to the chair of Manx Utilities.

Tim Baker says the organisation has 'learnt the lessons' from experiences two years ago, admitting he feels the step was taken 'relatively late' last time.

Water levels in Manx reservoirs have dropped to around 75 per cent of capacity.

Anyone who breaks the ban by watering private gardens or washing cars could be fined up to £2,000.
