Government seeks operator for rainbow trout farm

Tenant sought for Island's only fish farm

Government is seeking an operator for the rainbow trout farm near Maughold.

The Cornaa Hatchery, the only one of its kind in the Isle of Man, is used to rear 20,000 of the fish for recreational angling in the Island's reservoirs.

The vacancy arrives as the previous owner's lease on the hatchery has expired.

Meanwhile, government has taken responsibility for the site whilst new tenants are found.

Applicants are asked to submit a brief summary of their experience, capability and a proposal.

Agriculture Minister Geoffrey Boot described the position as 'a fabulous and rare opportunity to take on the Island’s only active fish farm'.

The deadline for applications is 21 August.
