Fire crews respond to kitchen fire in Willaston

Occupier alerted by smoke alarm

Fire crews were called out to reports of smoke coming from a property in Willaston this morning (13 June).

When officers arrived they found a small fire in the kitchen.

The crew extinguished the fire and stayed in attendance for around an hour.

The fire service says the occupier being alerted by the smoke detector and the quick arrival of the crew stopped the situation escalating.

It says: 'This incident highlights the importance of working smoke alarms, when there is a fire, smoke spreads fast.

'Working smoke alarms save lives, they give early warning in the case of fire which can enable occupants to get out of the property in the early stages of a fire, which in turn allows us to get to you more quickly.'
