'Essential' DoI and Manx Utilities work to continue under lockdown

Social distancing to be in force on site

Crews at the Department of Infrastructure will continue to carry out 'essential' work around the Island whilst the lockdown is in force.

Under circuit breaker rules, the department and Manx Utilities are permitted to undertake activities deemed 'reasonably necessary'.

These include pothole repair, road sweeping, gritting and refilling slat bins, ditch clearing and preventing flooding issues.

It's been permitted to keep roads safe and reduce the risk of someone needing to attend hospital following an accident.

The DoI says social distancing and hygiene measures are being followed on site.

Flood alleviation work is currently taking place in Laxey and Castletown, with high tides forecast next week.

The department says it has no wish to evacuate people to a community centre when they are being asked to stay at home and keep physically distant.
