Education minister responds to fast food concerns

'Vending machines selling junk food at NSC sends mixed message'

Choice and variety will help customers at the NSC fulfil a healthy lifestyle, according to the education minister.

However Graham Cregeen admitted in Tynwald yesterday (19 Mar) that the cafe menu is under review and has changed 'a little bit'.

His response came after a challenge from Garff MHK Daphne Caine.

These concerns were echoed by MLC Kerry Sharpe who questioned whether the restocking vending machines at the NSC with sugary drinks sent a good message, citing the obesity problem on the Island.

The amount of sugar in the food at the Island's primary schools also came under scrutiny by Mrs Caine and Mr Cregeen told Tynwald school meals are in line with the UK food standards, but are being reviewed by his department.
