Motiv8 cites closures of local gaming businesses

A charity that delivers therapeutic drug and alcohol recovery services on the Island says its started to see a gradual slowdown in donations.

Motiv8 will celebrate 50 years service to the Island next year and during 2025 dealt with the highest number of referrals since the pandemic.

The biggest drop in income has been from key donors in the gaming sector, who are no longer operational.

Motiv8 must now raise over 50% of its funding from alternative sources in order to sustain specialist projects.

It says savings are being made where possible, but that difficult decisions about some services may be necessary.

The funding issue reflects a wider challenge faced by many charities on the Island.
