DEFA responds to Dan Richardson cabin ruling

Department hopes time will allow him to find another place to live

Government says it hopes the time given to a man who built a cabin on its land, without permission, will give him a chance to find somewhere else to live.

Dan Richardson set up home near Ramsey and has been living off the land, and generating his own electricity, ever since.

But after a lengthy dispute over who the land belongs to a court's ruled it is owned by the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.

The department says while it welcome aspects of his approach to sustainability it's important that it's not simply viewed as a matter of land ownership.
