Covid booster vaccines to be rolled out in next few weeks

Over 50's and vulnerable people to be offered extra jab ahead of winter

Coronavirus booster vaccines are set to be rolled out across the Isle of Man in the next few weeks.

The jabs will be offered to all adults over 50 and those aged 16 and older with underlying health conditions which put them at risk of serious illness from Covid-19.

It also applies to frontline health and care workers, care home residents and those who live with somebody who is immunosuppressed.

It follows advice issued by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, accepted by the UK Government, that extra doses should be given ahead of the winter flu season.

The JCVI also advises flu jabs to be given at the same time.

The booster roll out will follow a similar order to the initial roll out of jabs earlier this year, starting with healthcare workers.

Government says it's important the booster is given at least six months after the second vaccination.

Anyone who is eligible for a booster but who had their second dose less than six months ago will be invited for a booster six months after their second dose.

This move applies to around 40,000 residents.

So far, almost 90.3% of the eligible adult population in the Isle of Man have had at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine and, of the group mentioned above, 97% have had two doses.

Overall, 87.5% of the eligible adult population have had both doses.
