Could Island tax palm oil?

Question to be asked in Tynwald

Could the Island place a tax on palm oil and related products?

A question for written answer in this month's Tynwald sitting.

It's come from Speaker Juan Watterson who wants to know if such a tax is under consideration by the Manx Treasury.

Palm oil is used in close to half of all products bought in supermarkets, from shampoo to pizza.

However, its production is a cause of increasing environmental concern, with vast areas of forest being cleared in order to grow it.
