'Community concept' proposals aim to enhance Jurby

Government plans for northern village will be public in April

Work on plans to transform the village of Jurby could get underway as early as this year.

Infrastructure and landscape upgrades in the local business park will mark the beginning of a three-year scheme to develop the area.

Almost £2 million has been set aside in this year's Budget to develop the village, with plans in place to improve both facilities and access for local residents.

Subject to planning approval, developments could see a raft of community-led proposals including the creation of a footpath network, allotments, greenhouses and the village's very own nature reserve.

Disused shipping containers converted into retail spaces for rent, have also been touted as having the potential to reinvigorate the area.

More than £800,000 will be spent initially by the department of infrastructure come the next financial year in 2020, with a further £1 million investment planned for the future.

The public are invited to view the full extent of the plans when they go on display at the Jurby Medical Centre on the following dates:

Monday 1 April 2-4pm
Thursday 4 April 11am-4pm
Saturday 6 April 11am-1pm

DoI says the events will also offer residents a chance to talk to officers from Bus Vannin about the introduction of the on-demand connectVILLAGES minibus service which caused confusion last week.

Businesses interested in moving to Jurby are advised to contact Public Estates at the Department of Infrastructure on properties.doi@gov.im.
