Tynwald debates report on regional sewage treatment
The findings of a parliamentary committee on the issue of sewage treatment in the west of the Island are set to be rejected by government today (15 May).
Chaired by Rob Callister MHK, the Environment and Infrastructure Policy Review Committee has made seven recommendations in its report on phase two of the Regional Sewage Treatment Strategy.
The document will be debated in Tynwald later today (15 May).
In its response, the Council of Ministers has turned down the request for an independent review of the costs of the strategy for Peel, St John's and Central Valley.
It's also rejected a suggestion that plans for an extended outfall pipe in Peel be factored into the strategy.
Manx Utilities has expressed its 'disappointment' with the committee's report, claiming it had ignored a separate independent study commissioned by MU.
It also claims the committee had given 'undue influence to a limited number of witnesses, who have clear conflicts of interest'.
The scrutiny body makes clear it has 'valid concerns' about the calculations relied on by MU and its advisors to continue developing a regional strategy for the West of the Island.
