Christian Aid Week raising money for Burundian farmers

Specialist support to be given

The money raised during Christian Aid Week will make a real difference to people's lives, according to the local branch of the charity.

This year the initiative, which is currently taking place, is raising funds to help with training and specialist support for farmers in Burundi.

Female farmers will receive specialist support to increase their incomes and establish micro-enterprises, and safeguard the health and nutrition of women and their children.

The Isle of Man Government has agreed to fund 90% of the project, with the money raised by Christian Aid making up the balance.

Speaking on Mandate this morning, Louise Whitelegg from Christian Aid IoM said they were looking to form real links with people in countries like Burundi, where help is desperately needed:
