Chief minister defends jet VAT treatment

EU initiates proceedings to close loophole

The chief minister says he's confident the Isle of Man has followed the rules regarding the registration of private jets here.

Howard Quayle has been speaking after it was announced the European Commission has initiated infraction proceedings against the Island and Italy, as it looks to close a loophole used to get tax back.

In a statement, the commission says it believes the UK has not taken sufficient action against what it terms abusive VAT practices in the Isle of Man with regard to the supply and leasing of aircraft.

Mr Quayle is defending the Island's conduct.
