Bunscoill Ghaelgagh to become 'fully maintained' by DESC

Director of Manx language school welcomes move

The Bunscoill Ghaelgagh is going to become a 'fully maintained' Isle of Man Government school for the first time in its 19-year history.

This means staff at the school will be directly employed by government.

Previously, the facility was mainly operated by a charity - Mooinjer Veggey.

Finance Director Phil Gawne says it's in the school's interests to become 'mainstream':

You can hear more of that interview below, where Dollin Mercer asked Mr Gawne how the transition came about:

Education Minister Dr Alex Allinson says the education facility has been "an intrinsic part of the Manx language revival," and that the move "cements the future of the school."

You can hear much more about this on Manx Radio's Perspective programme this Sunday, from midday to one.
