Alleged TT con man denies £31,000-worth of fraud

35-year-old denies nine charges

A man's appeared in court accused of conning TT campers out of more than £31,000.

Thirty-five-year-old Ian Moffitt of Randalstown in Northern Ireland appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse via telephone.

He denies a total of nine charges of fraud by making false representations in May and June 2018.

Prosecution advocate Rachel Braidwood told the court Mr Moffitt is accused of creating a fictional campsite and taking money from would-be campers.

The court heard Mr Moffitt's alleged to have taken more than £17,000 from Island firm Mann Link Travel.

But the hearing was told he had no campsite for bookings, and had no intention of providing one.

Mr Moffitt was granted bail in the sum of £500.

Magistrates said the case was too serious to be heard in a summary court and committed him to the Court of General Gaol Delivery.

He'll appear in the higher court on a date to be fixed.
