An exhibition celebrating 200 years of Jurby Church. From the time when smuggling was the chief business of the Island, where the women did the farming and the men went fishing, to riots over a tax on potatoes and a Bishop driven off the Island. And at the centre of the drama were Robert and William Farrant, Jurby farmers, MHKs and Church Wardens, who refused to pay the tax. Events came to a head just after Jurby Church was built. Lots of Family History material on the building of the church and lots of tea and cake! The exhibition’s been extended for another week and will now close at 4pm on 27 October.
