#MRWomenToday: Targets, bards and bears.....

On #MRWomenToday this Wednesday we were joined by medal winning Island archer Lesley Sleight.

At the age of 10 Lesley dreamt about representing her country as an athlete - 35 years later her dream came true and since then she has enjoyed a great deal of personal and team success.  She has just returned from the European Field Archery Championships in Germany, competing for England and was part of the silver medal winning team.

Lesley is also a teacher and for 30 years has been involved with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme supporting hundreds of Manx students.  Many of her expeditions seem to involve rather scary encounters with bears....

Also joining us today was Di Benson from the Manx Bard Committee.  The next Manx Bard will be revealed this weekend at a private event.  The initiative, which is supported by the Isle of Man Arts Council and Culture Vannin, is into its fourth year and if anyone is interested in helping with sponsorship the committee would love to hear from you - contact them here.

And once again we talked period poverty with Neal Mellon from Housing Matters.  He explained how girls and women who struggle to buy sanitary products are supported in the Isle of Man, and if anyone would like to help with donations they can call Neal on 07624 469632.  If anyone needs assistance the number to call is 01624 675507.

If you missed any of the show you can listen again for the next seven days by clicking here.  We'll be back tomorrow just after 2pm.
