#MRWomenToday: Crime fiction, artistic Manx roots and the need to talk about period poverty

On #MRWomenToday this Tuesday we met award winning crime authors Kate Charles and Marcia Talley who have been invited over to the Isle of Man by local writer Alan Bradley to meet fans and talk about their books at a series of events.  The first is this evening at Waterstones.  Doors open at 6:30pm and tickets cost £2 with all proceeds going to Crossroads Young Carers.  Tomorrow they will be at Dalby Church with money raised going to the Dalby Restoration Fund and the Family and Mobile Library.

You can find more about Kate by visiting her website and Marcia's can be found by clicking here.  We eagerly wait to see whether they go with our suggestion of writing a book together featuring characters from the Isle of Man....watch this space.

We were also joined on the phone by Manx born, UK based artist Julie Collins whose latest exhibition has just opened at the Isle Gallery. It runs until September 23rd.

We also talked about Scotland's plan to provide free sanitary products in schools, colleges and universities to end the what's referred to as 'period poverty'.  There's growing evidence to suggest that many women struggle to buy things like tampons every month.  There are no plans to look at government provision of such things on the Island, but Housing Matters has been in touch with us to say they do help women over here.  We will be talking to them on the show tomorrow.

If you missed any part of the show, you can listen again here for the next seven days.
