Celtfest Special

Yn Chruinnaght which means the gathering has always been an inclusive festival celebrating celtic music and culture from the isle of man and our fellow celtic nations. Celtfest continues in the spirit of the gathering, welcoming musicians and performers from all around the British Isles, as well as local talent. It’s a busy schedule with evening concerts at the Peel Centenary Centre and lunchtime sessions every day at 1pm at Noa Bakehouse – the festival kicks off with the first lunchtime session which takes the form of a Trad Jam where you’re invited to bring along you’re instrument and get involved which sounds like fun.

The lunchtime sessions at Noa continue every day next week, with singer and harpist Christa McCartney treating us to some ethereal sounds on Tuesday lunchtime from 1pm. Christa is teacher as well as being a performer and you can find out more about her work at www.christamccartneymusic.vpweb.co.uk

Having released his Celtic Connections-commissioned, debut solo album earlier this year, Hamish Napier returns to the Isle of Man to share his creation, ‘The River’ with the Celtfest community. Catch Hamish next Wednesday evening, with support from local talent, Scran, who will be performing a piece which Hamish himself has composed for them! Tickets are available through the Celtfest website www.celtfest.im

We finish up today’s show with some music from Scottish Trad group, Talisk! The Glasgow-based team will be performing at Celtfest on Thursday July 13th at the Peel Centenary Centre. Tickets can be found at www.celtfest.im and to find out more about the band, go to www.talisk.co.uk
