Southern 100 mourn loss of Derek Nicholson

Flags at Billown lowered in tribute to President

Southern 100 Club President Derek Nicholson has passed away after a short battle with illness.

Flags at the Billown circuit have been lowered to half-mast ahead with the 2017 meeting starting on Monday.

Derek has been President since 2002 and was made a life member of the club in 2010.

He first became involved with the Southern 100 back in 1974.

Derek was largely responsible for the first race programme being produced in 1983.

He was elected Chairman in 1984 and held the position for 18 years until he took on the role of President.

Club press officer Phil Edge says Derek's passing will hit hard those in the motorcycling fraternity.
