Rugby round-up as Vagas Ladies stun Crewe

Broughton Park see off Douglas at Port-e-Chee

Broughton Park resurgence continues at Douglas

From tenth place just before Christmas Broughton Park moved up to a remarkable fifth place in North One West with a 15-8 win at Port-e-Chee. A penalty from Bryn Snellgrove for Douglas and a try from Park’s Frank Smith saw the visitors hold a narrow 5-3 lead at half time. In the second half Rory Blakeney-Edwards extended the Park lead before Guy Wood hit back for Douglas but a try from Joe Sinclair sealed the deal for the Manchester outfit.

Mossley Hill win at Vagabonds

Mossley Hill beat Vagas 20-7 at Ballafletcher in challenging conditions. Vagas will hold their seventh place in the Lancs Cheshire Three standings but are now just four clear of eighth place Mossley Hill. The defeat also dents Vagas’ hopes for a top five finish. Vagas points in this match came courtesy of a penalty try.

Vagabonds end leaders’ unbeaten run

Crewe & Nantwich’s spell as unbeaten league leaders in Womens NC North West One came to an abrupt end at Ballafletcher when they were beaten 8-0 by Vagabonds. Two of Vagas five county players made the difference on the day. Kathryn “who else” Craine went in for  try and skipper Lauren Ellison added a penalty as Vagas handed Crewe their first nil of the season.

Ramsey B and Douglas Celts win in Shimmin Wilson Shield

Douglas beat Western Vikings 17-0 at Port-e-Chee. Charlie Henthorn, Ty Smith and Nathan Knights all went in for Douglas tries with Phil Plaatjies adding a conversion as Douglas cemented their second place in the Shield standings.

At Mooragh Park Ramsey led 8-0 at the break after a try from Will Olsen and a penalty from Dan Richmond. Rob Keelan pulled one back for Nomads in the second half but tries from Dan Richmond and Ben Harding, plus a Richmond conversion were enough to close the game out for Ramsey.
