Manx Rugby Round-up

Douglas suffer their very own Waterloo

Douglas beaten at Waterloo

Fourth against twelfth was always going to be a tough game and as usual the formbook was correct as Douglas lost 69-3 away at Firwood Waterloo. The hosts led 29-3 at half time with a Luke Hyland penalty the sum total of Douglas’ first half efforts. In the second half things took a turn for the worse and Waterloo ran in forty unanswered points. Douglas face Wilmslow at Port-e-Chee next Saturday which may be a better opportunity to pick up some points.

Back to back wins for Vagabonds Ladies

Vagabonds beat Halifax 22-12 at Ballafletcher to make it two wins on the bounce. The game was tied 12-12 at half time with tries from Corrina Daly and Jules Harrison plus a Sammie Macdonald conversion. In the second half Becky Dunne and Jess Swales crossed for Vagas to make the game safe. The win takes Vagas up to fifth in the Womens NC1 North West standings, just above Chester Devas who they face next weekend at Ballafletcher

Ramsey and Douglas win in Ravenscroft Manx Cup

There were wins for Ramsey and Douglas Celts in the Ravenscroft Manx Cup. Ramsey beat Southern Nomads 36-14 at Ballakilley while Douglas turned over Vagabonds 39-17 at Port-e-Chee.

First half tries from Matt Meechan, Adam Dunlop and Stevie Kneale, plus two Dan Richmond conversions gave Ramsey a 19-0 half time lead. Nomads pulled one back early in the second half courtesy of Orry Watterson but Sam Corlett and Brandon Atchison (2) ran in scores at the other end to push the game beyond Nomads. Steve McHugh picked up a late consolation for Nomads and Mark Young added to his earlier conversion.

Douglas Celts picked up their first win in the Cup against old rivals Sure Vagabonds. Craig Martin ran in a hat trick of tries for the Celts with other tries coming from Brody Hewison, Nick Hughes, Danny Creer and Rich Bell with Brendan Kelly converting one. Ian Marks, Callum Murray and Will Taylor all crossed for Vagas with Harri Wallis adding a conversion.
