Ticket tout's Manx firm shuts down

Millions of music fans ripped off

The Paradise Papers have revealed the extent to which a notorious Canadian ticket reseller used an Isle of Man-based operation to make millions ripping off music fans.

So-called 'supertout' Julien Lavallée appears to have wound up his presence here since the documents came to light.

It's been the plague of concertgoers for years.

Tickets for big name arena shows sell out in minutes, before appearing on resale websites shortly afterwards for a sky high premium.

Although the practice is banned in the UK, much of Europe and North America, there are no specific laws against it here - which enticed Mr Lavallée to establish his company, I Want Ticket Inc., with a registered address on Hope Street in Douglas.

Douglas-based professional services firm Middleton Katz acted as agents.

Now documents found in the Paradise Papers show how Lavallée's ticket buyers dodged the rules set by agents, buying hundreds of them at a time under different aliases.

His firm, which turned over more than £6 million last year, has since applied to be dissolved.
