Reduction to gas tariffs delayed

New prices will now come into effect on 7 January

A 16% reduction to the Island's gas tariff has been delayed to allow Isle of Man Energy more time to test changes within its billing system.

The Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority announced the price changes last week after completing its twice yearly review of the cost of gas to Manx residents.

However, it's since received a request for a short delay.

It's hoped allowing extra time to test the changes will mitigate any potential billing disruptions, which the regulator says is clearly in the interest of consumers and the gas supplier.

CURA also found its review had been completed around a week later than in previous years, meaning Isle of Man Energy would have had to implement the changes over the Christmas period.

As a result, the authority says the benefits of the delay outweigh any potential harm, and the new tariffs will now come into force on 7 January.
