New DOI charter could cost ratepayers more money say commissioners 

Could mean local authorities will be in charge of gritting

Residents in Peel could be required to pay higher rates to fund functions that were previously carried out by the Department of Infrastructure.

Updates to the Highway Maintenance Charter mean local authorities could be forced to provide snow clearing services on top of gully and street sweeping.

The proposals would be introduced by early 2024 but government hasn't revealed who will front the cost.

But Clerk of Peel Commissioners Derek Sewell is worried it could cause issues for all local authorities across the Island:
