New consultations to open into wind farm proposals

Leaflets have been sent to local households this week

Statutory consultations are set to open into the proposed Morcambe and Morgan offshore wind farms being developed in the Irish Sea.

The consultations concern generation assets for the projects.

A separate, non-statutory consultation is also open regarding transmission assets for each site. This focusses on the infrastructure which connects both wind farms to the existing electricity network.

The first stage of consultations were held at the end of last year, with an information event held at Douglas Town Hall in November.

At that time, Infrastructure Minister Chris Thomas described the proposed location for the farms as having 'huge implications' for the Island - particularly with regards to Steam Packet routes.

The Morcambe project is being led by Cobra and Flotation Energy, while Energie Baden-Wurttemberg AG (EnBW) and bp are leading the Morgan project.
The new consultations open next Wednesday (19 April) and will close on 4 June 2023.
