MGP 2023: Thoughts from the Grandstand

Mixed 'reality' for Island businesses

This year's centenary Manx Grand Prix event came to an end yesterday and over the weekend Manx Radio spoke with fans and businesses at the Grandstand to find out how things had been.

2023 also saw the reduced schedule brought back for a second time.

It's something Allan Brew, Chairman of the Manx Grand Prix Supporters Club, says there's demand to see the two-week format brought back:

"I was very worried that this might come to an end this year."

Meanwhile, some Manx businesses say they suffer a drop in trade during the Manx Grand Prix and TT despite the influx of visitors.

In a social media post, one business in Douglas says 'the reality' can often be an empty restaurant on race days - other traders shared similar experiences, saying "TT and MGP have been the quietest weeks for us!"
