Meeting to weigh views on statins

New season for PAG

A public debate on the pros and cons of prescribing statins to adults will be held in Douglas tomorrow night (Monday 25 Sept).

It's the topic for the first in a new season of Positive Action Group meetings.

Ramsey GP and MHK Dr Alex Allinson will advocate continued use of statins, a cholesterol-lowering drug recommended for those at risk by the British Heart Foundation.

An alternative view promoting healthier lifestyles and prevention will be outlined by former Healthcare Innovation Consultant to the Manx government, Courtenay Heading.

Mr Heading, who suggested the topic, hopes the meeting will widen debate on statins.

He's questioned the accepted view that high cholesterol is a health concern:

The Positive Action Group meeting entitled Statins: Curse or Cure? starts at 7.30pm at the Manx Museum on Monday night.
