John Quinn is new Attorney General

Acting AG appointed chief legal officer

The Manx advocate who has acted as the government's chief legal officer for the past three years, has been permanently appointed to the role.

John Quinn has today (15 Jan) been confirmed as the new Attorney General for the Isle of Man.

Mr Quinn has served as acting AG since early 2013, when his predecessor Stephen Harding was suspended from the position.

Mr Harding subsequently faced criminal trials in the Manx court and was acquitted in February 2014.

Prior to this in 2010, complaints regarding his conduct as Government Advocate in a winding-up petition case were upheld by the Advocates Disciplinary Tribunal.

He retired on grounds of ill health in September 2015.

Mr Quinn has been appointed by the Queen to act as legal adviser to the Lieutenant Governor, Council of Ministers, government departments and statutory boards.

He is a past president of the Isle of Man Law Society and has managed several legal practices in 30 year career in the profession.

Arrangements are being made for Mr Quinn's official swearing-in.
