Health regulator plans ongoing

Services could improve if properly implemented says Minister

Plans to appoint an independent healthcare regulator will be pushed forward in the near future.

Health minister David Ashford told Keys colleagues last week talks with several off-Island agencies were progressing, having been tabled by his predecessor Kate Beecroft.

NHS and private health services in the UK are regulated by the Care Quality Commission.

While the Island has no formal equivalent, bodies like the West Midlands Quality Review Service do conduct regular inspections here.

Mr Ashford says a regulator could improve services - but it must be done properly:
