Did the Isle of Man help tax evaders?

Panorama exposé makes multiple claims

The Isle of Man's tax rules have been called into question after featuring heavily in tonight's episode of BBC's Panorama.

In a high profile exposé, presenter Richard Bilton explained how F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, and others may have avoided paying UK tax by importing jets via the Island.

Other claims include the Manx Government amending laws in 2005 which may have facilitated tax avoidance, and Apple questioning law firm Appleby over the political stability of the Island.

Allegations arose from seven million leaked or hacked documents from Appleby, which has base in Athol Street.

Speaking on the programme Chief Minister Howard Quayle stated the Isle of Man was an international, transparent and responsible jurisdiction, and that any wrongdoing would be investigated.

The documents from Appleby were first shared by an anonymous source with German outlet Süddeutsche Zeitung, who then passed the data on to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, which includes the BBC and the Guardian.

At the conclusion of the episode, Mr Bilton suggested change could be on the horizon:
