Douglas fashion shop cites 'unimaginable inflation' and input costs 'six times higher'
Douglas-based women's clothing shop Claire Christian Couture is due to close its doors for the final time in ten days' time, citing a fall in trade since Covid and a rise in input costs.
A post on social media says the business was going from 'strength to strength' before the pandemic, but an 'unimaginable rise in inflation' has seen input costs 'at best doubled and at worst six times higher'.
They say it's impossible for a small business like theirs to survive, and it 'breaks their hearts that many Island businesses will be struggling in these difficult times.'
The store has run for ten years and is owned by Douglas South MHK Claire Christian.
A closing down sale starts today with a view to closing the doors on the Victoria Street shop on Saturday, 22 April.
