Bus drivers and DoI agree holiday deal

Work to rule called off as both sides compromise

A dispute between bus drivers and infrastructure chiefs over annual leave has been settled.

DoI officials and the Unite union had argued about the amount of holiday drivers are allowed each TT fortnight.

Bus Vannin management said as the number of drivers had fallen in recent years, the number on holiday during the busy period should also be reduced.

It’s now been agreed up to seven drivers will be granted annual leave during TT practice week and 10 during race week each year.

Drivers will also receive an extra £5.52 per hour if they are called into work on Mad Sunday.

A failure to settle ongoing negotiations had led to drivers ‘working to rule’ this week, only fulfilling their contracted hours and refusing to work overtime.

Drivers agreed the deal by unanimous vote, and the work to rule has been called off.
