Congestion and student safety cited as factors
Students returning to Ballakermeen High School for the start of term have today (6 Sep) been greeted by a new traffic barrier.
Placed at the secondary school's entrance on Westminster Drive, it's been introduced for a variety of reasons, including stopping motorists using the route as a short cut to St Catherine's Drive.
The barrier control system will be fully operational from September 25 - when visitors must speak to the school office via a buzzer, or provide ID to be admitted.
Parents are being encouraged to drop children off on Alexander Drive, Hawarden Avenue, Bucks Road or Peel Road, with students asked to walk the final leg of the journey to the school.
School head, Adrienne Burnett says the new measure was a must amid concerns about student safety and congestion around the site:
