Appeal for photographs documenting the history of Queen’s Pier

New book set to be released later this year

A local author has launched an appeal for photographs of the Queen's Pier to be included in a forthcoming book.

The release will look at the history and challenges faced by the pier.

Bob Stimpson hopes it will create a full picture of the entire life of the pier up to the present restoration activities.

Anyone with suitable photographs is asked to drop them in to the Mitre Hotel Ramsey on Saturday 15 July between 10am to 4pm, where they will be scanned and returned immediately.

Alternatively, email them to pier@william-kennish.com

Mr Stimpson said: "I want to include as many photos as possible of people enjoying or working on the pier including, if possible, photographs of the pier against fantastic skies to show the life around and on it.

"The book will be published to raise funds for the pier."

He added: "The book will explain the varied history of the pier from its inception in the 1880’s through to the current work, and recount the many people, stories and challenges over that period including the discussions and debates in Tynwald."

Mr Stimpson previously wrote the book on Maughold lad, ships carpenter, inventor, explorer and poet William Kennish, which led in 2014 to the naming of the Isle of Man College’s William Kennish Engineering Centre.

His more recent book on the communications pioneer Castletown-born Sir Frank Gill led recently to the Lt Governor, Sir John Lorimer unveiling a Blue Plaque at his birthplace, recognising the Manxman’s key contribution to the formation of the BBC.
