£100K award will make 'monumental difference' to carers

Money will be used to support carers with mental health and trauma

The Manx Lottery Trust has awarded £100,000 to Crossroads Isle of Man to provide psychological support for carers and their families.

The money comes from the trust’s 2022 ‘thematic funding’ programme.

Crossroads recently launched a new project designed to support carers and their loved ones with mental health and trauma they may be experiencing.

Two mental health workers will be trained and employed who will be solely dedicated to providing a safe space for carers.

It follows the publication of a report from Crossroads in partnership with the Department of Health and Social Care on the ‘State of Caring’.

Five-hundred-and-sixty-six people responded to the survey which revealed many carers they find their health and wellbeing, social life and relationships with others are impacted by their caring role, and there can also be a significant financial impact - something the charity says should be a 'wake-up call' for wider community.
