Austerity may sharpen focus on tax differential

One of the stormiest forecasts - politically and economically - the UK and US have faced since 2010, is likely to be felt in the Isle of Man.

That view from a UK commentator in the Island last week.

Richard Ramsey is chief economist with Ulster Bank in Northern Ireland.

He gave a talk 'Calm Before the Brexterity Storm' to RBS banking colleagues, during his visit, during which he also met the Treasury minister and officials.

In a wide-ranging analysis, he outlined his view of the UK economy, 10 years after the global financial crisis.

He believes public finances remain a major headache in the UK and will require tough and unpopular choices - which, if they lead to tax rises, could prove positive for the Isle of Man:
