TUC letter to Chief Minister

The Trade Union Council wants the Manx government to be reorganised, and a new department set up to oversee the world of work.

President of the Isle of Man TUC Bernard Moffatt has written to Chief Minister Tony Brown outlining a number of the organisation's concerns, a year to the day after the House of Keys general election.

Mr Moffatt says issues such as work permits, trade union rights and pensions are creating problems for the Island and are controlled by different areas of government.

He says a logical step would be to reorganise these facets of industry and create a Department of Work, Pensions and Employment Security.

The new body would then take over some functions of the Department of Trade and Industry, the DHSS and the Treasury.

Mr Moffatt (pictured) is calling on the government to have the courage to tackle the issues before problems become more serious.
